Top 10: How to Make the Best of Sales

Hello everyone! How's your summer been? Recently there's been a sale in the starplaza. Even though it is over, here's ten helpful tips to make the best of the next sale in the Starplaza, particularly the 3-for-2 offer.

1. Wait for the sale. Got a lot of items on your wishlist? While that top may be very cute, don't just buy it aimlessly. Stardoll sales come around every once in a while, and use these discounts and deals to your advantage. I highly recommend being patient for sales to appear if you have plans to buy expensive items. Knowing what you want to buy helps you avoid overspending.

2. Truly know the sale. In the recent sale, the offer was 3-for-2, which means of every three items you buy (of the same currency) you get one of them free. While this is true to a point, remember this means only the cheapest item of the three will become free. Even though this step seems obvious in both virtual and real life, it's essential to know before moving on to the next.

3. Buy things three at a time. Got some time on your hands? This is the perfect follow up for the previous step. By knowing that only the cheapest of three items will cost you nothing, take that to your advantage. After knowing exactly what you want to buy, buy them three at a time, starting with the top three costly ones. Every third item your cart has, push buy. Then move on to the next three. By doing this you cheat the system a little - you get more for less (instead of the cheapest two of six items, you get the two more expensive ones free). Albeit highly effective, some of you may not have that kind of time--or energy--so the next step is a  less time-consuming alternative.

4. Shop in multiples of three. This should be obvious, but sometimes it's easy to miss if you've got a lot of items in your cart. Take the few seconds it does to count how many items there are, and add or remove items to make sure you make the best of your deal. If you've got five items, add another cheap item (like shoes or jewelry) to get two free items instead of one. If you've got seven items remove one (do not add two more). Just think: do you really need all that?

5. Be wary of silly mistakes. Ever lost points for misreading a question on a quiz? How about losing points because you simply skipped a question with the means to come back to it later but totally forgot to after handing in the test? People make silly mistakes all the time, and some of those may even be on Stardoll. Avoid making mistakes such as assuming that having two stardollar items and one starcoin item are going to apply to the 3-for-2 sale. It's not, and you've just wasted good money.

6. Shop for the sale, don't let the sale shop for you. We all know sales are when stores make big money, whether it's in Stardoll or in real malls. They want you to fawn over shoes with low prices, and encourage you to buy more. Sales are great for the consumer, but don't fall in the trap where you must buy everything. We've all had those troubled moments when we've added half a store in our cart and have to eliminate items because it's more than we can afford. Knowing how to be a conscious consumer is a good skill to practice on Stardoll.

7. Jog your memory a bit. I can't expect you to know everything by heart, but when you do some dressing-room-shopping (where you put clothes in your dressing room but end up not buying it), try to take note of the prices of some clothes you think you might buy in the future. The dress that cost 100 starcoins now is 92? This could help you make the decision whether or not the sale makes it worth buying. Try thinking back to prices you've seen in the Starplaza when shopping in the Starbazaar, this'll help you as well (sometimes the original price shown on the tag is wrong).

8.  Shop before or while completing your daily starcoins. The daily 40 starcoins you can receive by doing various things on Stardoll is a discount in itself. This ties in with the staggered purchase strategy in step three. You get three starcoins off every time you shop, and with shopping in batches, you could get the equivalent of a stardollar off, depending on how much you buy. This isn't per item but each time you shop, so try step three if you've got the time. Remember this doesn't work if you've already completed your daily starcoins.

9. Take your time, but not that long. The time you notice there's a sale isn't always the time it started. Take my perception for an example, just yesterday I noticed the 3-for-2 sale and went ahead and shopped. I made plans to post about it here but today it ended. I thought it had started when I noticed it. The sale was short-lived so extra preparation always comes in handy.

10. Not every sale means spend. Even though the other nine tips seem like a great way to manipulate the sale system, it doesn't mean you need to spend every time there is a sale. Sales come and go, and you can always count on one coming in the future. Just enjoy your time on Stardoll, and if you feel like you really want to go on a shopping spree, a sale is never a handicap.

Hope these tips help you with any future sales!
